As you enter the natural harbor of Symi, you will be charmed by this beautiful island. One of the most picturesque islands of the Dodecanese, Symi is a visual treat with its colorful buildings and imposing churches. Lively Gialos, the harbor area, is very small but lined with little cafes, fish and seafood restaurants, sponge and spice stalls. For shopping lovers, there are interesting handmade jewelry, clothing and gift shops.
Don't waste your time on traditional boats, and travel with the quickest and best boat available in Rhodes. In just ~1 hour 15 minutes you will be in Symi, where you will have ~5 hours free time, which is more than other boats can offer.
You will have an opportunity to visit Panormitis Monastery as well, if you like. It was built in the 18th century, and you will be amazed of its interior: remarkable wall paintings of byzantine times, a wood-carved altarpiece and the impressive icon of Archangel Michail with the oblations from worshippers.
The visit to Panormitis Monastery is optional. Once you arrive to Symi, there will be a bus that you can bring you to Panormis for extra 6 euros per person (both ways included: Symi - Panormitis Monastery - back to Symi ~13:30). Just have in mind that you will have left ~3 hours free time to explore Symi, where you can have lunch, shopping or swim at nearby beach.
